Shakespeare Stoned? Someone at the Associated Press got the month wrong when this came over the newswire in connection with an event occurring on March 1. The report was surely being saved for April 1, and escaped prematurely. Still, one local newspaper issued on March 2 could not resist the fun, concocting the headline: DOOBIE OR NOT DOOBIE? Johannesburg. Several 17th-century clay pipes found on the site of William Shakespeare's home may have been used to smoke marijuana, scientists reported yesterday. The Stratford-Upon-Avon Trust in England allowed South African researchers to analyze 24 pipe fragments in Pretoria. Though marijuana degrades over time, eight of those pipe fragments showed signs suggestive of marijuana, the scientists said. Two of the pipe samples tested also showed evidence of cocaine.
