Maria Herrera Update

Maria Herrera survived deportation and now lives with a friend in Cali, Columbia. In a message sent via email in October 2001 she describes the country as in perpetual civil war, with the United States preventing a peace settlement. She had managed to find a paying job cleaning house. On March 16, 2002 she emails:

I just received a letter from Becky from December where she sent me copies of newspaper articles about our book.

I am not working anymore, I had some problems at work and I removed myself.

Is there anything I can do to go back to the states? Sometimes I feel so lost in this country, I feel sorry for the girls who do not have no relatives in this country, at least I have cousins and uncles
but I still miss my family I grew up with.

Take care,
Maria Eugenia Herrera
